How much will this affect other sports as well? Given the current state of the economy there are also racers feeling it starting from the ground up, not just in the big show. Lots of drivers and teams that I have spoken with in IHRA have also mentioned how difficult things are. Racing is no cheap sport. Read this article on the situation.
As for things turning around, I truly hope it happens sooner than later before sports start to loose more than they can handle. In terms of sponsorships, I truly dont believe there is a better form of advertising then being involved in big name sports. The target demographic for most of these major companies is exactly they type of crowd these events and venues draw. May things only look up from here!
