Quality depth has been an issue for the Cardinals all season.  They may soon be adding a pair of veterans that will address the depth issue and may bring a much needed boost to the offense.

Mark DeRosa is quickly progressing towards a return to the Cardinal lineup.  The utility man did take batting practice indoors during Thursday's workout at Busch stadium.  If all goes well, DeRosa will take BP with the team before Friday's game.  He could be activated as early as this weekend.

Troy Glaus is also making progress towards a return.  Coming back from off-season shoulder surgery, Glaus is now 4-games into a minor league rehab assignment.  He's being used as a DH and first baseman for the Class A Palm Beach Cardinals.  Glaus continues to protect the shoulder by not subjecting it to much throwing.

During his 4-games in the Florida State League, Glaus is hitting .176 (3 for 17) with 2 RBI's, a walk and 3 strikeouts.  He'll have a total of 20-games on this rehab assignment.  That means he could be back with the big club by early August.

DeRosa back in the next few days, Glaus returning perhaps in a few weeks.  It's like the Cardinals making two pickups at the trade deadline.
