Queens, NY - As the Cardinals were preparing for their Tuesday night game against the Mets at Citi Field, word spread through the clubhouse that there was another National Player of the Month winner among them. No, not number 5. This time the award goes to number 47, Ryan Ludwick.
The Cardinal right fielder hitting .340 in July, with 6 home runs and a league-high 28 RBI's. Ludwick told me he credits his teammates for getting on base and putting him position to earn the award.
But Ludwick is being far too modest. He deserves the credit for never allowing his early season struggles get him down. A hamstring injury could have been the excuse, although it never was. Good old fashioned hard work got Ludwick back on track.
By the way, 3 of the 4 N.L. Player of the Month Awards have gone to cardinals. Albert Pujols in April and June, Ludwick in July. Could August be going to Matt Holliday? Stay tuned.
