This afternoon USA soccer takes on Mexico in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying.  The casual observer, a group to which I belong, my look forward to a nice competitive affair.  We would be wrong.  The Yanquis have never beaten the Mexicans in Azteca stadium. A horrific 0-22 -1 historically, the Americans have changed their travel schedule and hopefully change their luck.  Rather than go into Mexico City well ahead of the game to aclimate, our boys just flew into town a day or so ago.  Altitude, heat, smog, filth and real danger.

Oh yeah, real danger.  Even to overacheiving alpha-male types the stress of all of the above gets to you.

The best hope for victory lies in the U.S. goal.  Howard must stone the Mexicans.  And if he does what happens?  Here is the best case senario....the Mexicans are taken apart by the mob and the U.S. team gets kidnapped.  If I may borrow from General Buck Turgeson, "I'm not sayin' we won't get our hair mussed a little bit."  Sure we'll lose a couple ears maybe some pinky toes or ring fingers...you know proof of life.  You want a toe?  I can get you a toe.

The Americans are a better team.  If anything untoward happens it's on.  You'll beg for the Santa Anna treatment.  Though I hope things don't get out of hand...I'd still like to go to Cabo.

Go Yanquis!
