And before you rip me for being the "rain on the parade guy" please not that I'm just following the lead of our skipper. That's right, Tony Larussa taught me years ago that when things are going good, especially when they're going good, you must stay vigilant for pitfalls. '
Look, we all know there are streaks, there are games that even the best teams are just not going to win, and there are coincidences that appear to be trends but really aren't. But you can't disregard these signs...just in case. Paranoia? Perhaps. Then again maybe everyone really is against you.
This weekend the Cardinals rolled. Dominating the Padres on their way to a four game winning streak. Winners laugh and tell jokes right? Not on this squad, Buster! Because I'm concerned that I've found a negative trend.
The Birds are losing too many runners on the basepaths. You may not have noticed in all of the confetti. If it happens every now and then...no big deal. But if look back at the weekend I think you'll see that the Redbirds lost multiple baserunners in a number of ways. What is the reason? Too confident? Too loose? Poor attention to detail? Poor technique? All of the above? I'm not sure. I'm just throwing up the red flag for everyone to take notice.
If this club continues to run the bases this way it will come back to haunt them. Squandering opportunity is a sure fire way to disaster. Button it up gentleman...we've got a championship to win
