It appears college basketball's "Teflon Don" is smoothly skating away again.
Later Monday afternoon the NCAA is scheduled to make an announcement regarding the punishment that will befall the University of Memphis for '08 violations. The expected sanctions would include vacating all 38 wins and their trip to the final four.
Kentucky coach John Calipari was the capo of the Tigers at the time. But as these rulings come down he has moved on to Lexington. Isn't that convenient?! If indeed the Tigers final four season is vacated Calipari would be the only coach in history to lose final four seasons to NCAA sanctions. You didn't forget about UMASS in '96 did you. For some reason guys like Teflon Cal either don't think you'll remember or more likely you don't care.
(Read in southern accent) "Coach, I don't like to lose! You just tell us what yew need to make these boys win!"
Now Teflon Cal,"Just what I wanted to hear. First, none of this ridiculous buyout stuff. Tell you what, instead of a couple of million let's go with 250-thousand. That sounds about right. And I'm going to be bringing in a bunch great recruits...and if I ever decide to leave I don't want their letters of intent to be binding. They should be able to play wherever they want...if you know what I mean. And don't worry about academic compliance. I have people to take care of that."
On top of this what to folks in Kentucky think? Govenor Steve Beshear said,"I'm not worried about it because they have never said Coach Cal did anything wrong at all. I think he's a very upstanding guy. I think that's his reputation and I think that's his reputation and I think that reputation will be with him here. I really don't forsee any problems."
The late Bob Novak had it right when said politicians as a class are dispicable. There's a lot of that going around.
What do you think?
