Yours truly is super excited about being a part of the terrific team that is 101 ESPN! My job is to supply afternoon updates from noon to 7PM and cover the St. Louis Blues (something I've been privileged to do off and on since the 1991-1992 season).

I grew up in the area, hailing from the steeltown of Granite City, Illinois and began covering hockey while earning a degree from SIUE.

The Blues skated today at Scottrade Center as their Training Camp enters Day Three. Head Coach Andy Murray's team is currently more than 50-deep and split into three groups that are practicing and scrimmaging. Tuesday night 20 of them will get to throw on a sweater and play in the team's first preseason game of 2009. Minnesota checks in for an exhibition matchup that will start at 7:00 from Scottrade Center. The tilt will be the first in a three-game homestand that will continue in another pair of 7:00 PM starts, Friday against Colorado and Saturday against Dallas.

Murray has named Chris Mason as his starting goaltender for the preseason opener. The Wild arrive tomorrow night with rookie head coach Todd Richards who replaces Jacques Lemaire. Richards will guide a more up-tempo offense that features new arrival and former Blackhawk Martin Havlat (Chicago's leading scorer in 2008-2009) in place of the departed Marian Gaborik who joined the New York Rangers during the offseason.
