The Blues today are announcing that they have picked up an option to extend the current contract of Head Coach Andy Murray through the 2010-2011 season.
Last season, Murray was a finalist for the Jack Adams Award that annually goes to the National Hockey League's top bench boss. He lost out to winner Claude Julien of Boston while San Jose's Todd McClellan was also a finalist.
Murray guided the Blues to a 41-31-10 record, sixth-place finish in the Western Conference and first Stanley Cup Playoff Berth for St. Louis since 2004. Murray turned to netminder Chris Mason over disgruntled veteran Manny Legace (unhappy in the last year of a contract) in a move that paid huge dividends.
Murray will start Mason tonight in a preseason opener at Scottrade Center against Minnesota. Opening puckdrop is slated for 7:00 this evening downtown.
