What a night in Houston for the Cardinals!  Wasn't it great to see Mark DeRosa have such a big night against Redbird nemesis Wandy Wadwiguez?  This is the guy the Cards traded for for.  Mark talked about it to the Post-Dispatch recently when expressed his frustration with the wrist injury that is preventing him from playing at 100%.   I'm frustrated as well because DeRosa is my kind of ballplayer.  And I think he's the kind of player that St. Louis fans really take to.  Anyway, this blog is not here to point out the obvious but underscore a real issue.

Mark DeRosa needs surgery on his wrist and there are many in this town that would have you believe that it's just an easy deal...zip in zip out...Just like going to Wisconsin.  Well as I look into this tendon sheath injury more and more I am compelled to tell you, while understanding that you'll label me the rain-on-the-parade guy, that in all likelyhood Mark DeRosa will still be less that 100% next season!

It just takes time to recover from surgery.  As advanced as modern science is you can't regenerate tissue Dr. Frankenstien.  The human body goes at it's  own pace.

So, what do the Cardinals do?  Signing players now with a sharp eye on the future (see: Albert Pujols) will be important for a competitve team in '10.  Can you live with a veteran who knows how to play the game but his body will only allow him to play at 80%? My expectations for 2010 would be something like....260, 20 & 75.  That's good enough for me because of the intangibles I think he brings to the team.  Is it good enough for you?  Is it good enough for the Cardinals payroll?
