Amendola, who was recently on Philadelphia's practice squad, figures to step in as the returner for both punts and kickoffs. He can also contribute as a slot receiver and is familiar with the offense from his time under Pat Shurmur.
The move also gives the Rams some flexibility with Kenneth Darby on special teams, as he can now be used as a front blocker or extra guy back.
Stanley, who had battled back from offseason knee surgery, had averaged 12.3 yards on three punt returns this season but had not been used as a kick returner after averaging just over 25 yard per return the last two years.
Likened to Wes Welker, Amendola caught 204 passes at Texas Tech and was featured in HBO's "Hard Knocks" last season as he battled his way to a practice squad spot with Dallas.
Philadelphia signed Amendola at the start of the playoffs as part of their taxi squad.
