This National League finish is going right down to the wire...though it really makes no difference.  The four teams are set.  It's just a matter of who plays whom and when.  The Cardinals are going to play either the Dodgers or the Rockies in the first round.  It will be fun to watch the finish this weekend.  Not because it really matters but, just to follow the action and it's effect on next week's schedule.

Most all fans would like to see their team with the home field advantage.  So if the Redbirds are going to provide that luxury for their fans they really need to sweep.  But even if the Birds get to 94 there's still no gaurantee because the Dodgers could take a couple from Colorado and get to 95 or even six.

In the end the Cardinals don't control their own destiny.  So play to win.  Not to get the home field but to get that winning feel back.  The feel where the club expects to win every time they go out on the field.

Following up my blog from yesterday I still think the Cy Young award is Wainwright's to win this evening.  20 wins will lock it down.  If he doesn't the award falls to Carpenter.  Sorry Lincecum...you're great but 15 wins won't cut it.  I know the arguments but I don't think they hold water.  Carp wins the ERA title...he has more wins...and he has a better winning percentage.  Now, the Lincecum honks will talk about his total number of innings.  And that number is great.  But if the guy with far fewer innings has more wins and a better winning percentage...well anybody who's fair and not just taking a position knows the answer.

The other crutch point you'll get is that Lincecum plays on a worse team.  Give me a freaking break.  The Cardinals haven't scored runs in a month.  And they didn't in the first half either.  The Giants have only five fewer wins...we're not talking about the '62 Mets here.  Another argument that is pure hogwash.

For Cy Young it's Waino or Carp and pull out the tarp...it's over...

Also if I may steal from Bernie Miklasz...free Brendan Shanahan!
