The Blues are back in town after sweeping a set of games against Detroit over the weekend in Stockholm, Sweden. The Note outscored the Red Wings 9-6 in two-straight regulation wins on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
Today the Blues sent goaltender Ben Bishop back to their minor-league affiliate in Peoria. Bishop was allowed to travel with the team overseas as a third netminder and 24th player on the roster...just until the team returned to North America.
The Blues have also waived forward Derek Armstrong with the hopes that he clears so they can send him to the Rivermen, as well. This move was necessary due to activating winger D-J King from injured reserve. King hurt his thumb early in training camp.
The question now becomes, who sits if Andy Murray is to insert King into the lineup on an upcoming game night ? The Blues host Atlanta on Thursday night and Los Angeles on Saturday night.
The same 12 forwards dressed for both games in Stockholm leaving Armstrong and Cam Janssen on the outside looking in. The team's current four lines have been pretty well cemented for weeks. The top unit has David Backes centering Andy McDonald and David Perron. Keith Tkachuk (named NHL Third star of the Week today behind Washington forward Alex Ovechkin and Colorado goaltender Craig Anderson) has been inbetween Paul Kariya and Brad Boyes. Patrik Berglund's line has seen T-J Oshie and Brad Winchester on its wings. The inseparable "Energy Line" continues to consist of Jay McClement centering Alex Steen and B-J Crombeen.
It's also worth noting that 19-year old blueliner Alex Pietrangelo has been a healthy scratch thus far and is still awaiting his 2009-2010 regular season debut. The Blues can play Pietrangelo up to nine games before electing to keep him here or send him back to juniors.
Erik Johnson, Darryl Sydor, Barret Jackman, Roman Polak, Carlo Colaiacovo and Mike Weaver have all played in the first two games.
