Yours truly is super excited about being a part of the terrific team that is 101 ESPN! My job is to supply afternoon updates from noon to 7PM and cover the St. Louis Blues (something I've been privileged to do off and on since the 1991-1992 season).

I grew up in the area, hailing from the steeltown of Granite City, Illinois and began covering hockey while earning a degree from SIUE.

The Blues skated at The Mills in Hazlewood this morning following last night's 4-2 loss at Scottrade center, to Atlanta, in the team's home opener. Barret Jackman sprained his ankle in the game and is being placed on injured reserve while being considered week-to-week, according to Jeremy Rutherford of the Post-Dispatch.

19-year old blueliner Alex Pietrangelo will make his 2009-2010 regular season debut tomorrow night when the Note hosts the L-A Kings in a 7:00 start. An additional defenseman, perhaps Tyson Strachan, will likely be recalled from the team's minor league affiliate in Peoria.

The team has also confirmed sending winger D-J King to Peoria on a conditioning assignment. King started the season on the IR with a thumb injury, suffered early in training camp.

Andy Murray's team is 2-and-1 and has now outcored it's opponents 11-10 in the young regular season. He has used the same lineup for the first three games as Pietrangelo, King and Cam Janssen have been the scratches. King's departure leaves the team with 22 players (one less than the roster maximum). This isn't uncommon as Murray played with 22 players through much of the 2008-2009 campaign.

The visiting Kings will skate into town with a matching mark of 2-and-1 off the heels of back-to-back wins over San Jose and Minnesota. This after dropping a season opener to Phoenix. The Kings have outscored their opponents, 15-13. Tomorrow night's test will be L-A's first on the road this season.
