Yours truly is super excited about being a part of the terrific team that is 101 ESPN! My job is to supply afternoon updates from noon to 7PM and cover the St. Louis Blues (something I've been privileged to do off and on since the 1991-1992 season).

I grew up in the area, hailing from the steeltown of Granite City, Illinois and began covering hockey while earning a degree from SIUE.

The Blues face Phoenix Thursday night at 9:00 in the first of a three-game road trip. Andy Murray's team is 2-2 following a 2-1 loss at home to Los Angeles in its last effort on Saturday night.

The Coyotes, Like Atlanta and L-A (teams who beat the Note last week at Scottrade center) appear to be improved from a 2008-2009 campaign that failed to bring a postseason bid. Phoenix is off to a 3-2 start as netminder Ilya Bryzgalov already has two shutouts under his belt.

The Note recalled defenseman Tyson Strachan from its minor league affiliate in Peoria on Tuesday. Strachan will travel with the team bringing its number of healthy/active defensemen back to seven. Blueliner Barret Jackman is on injured reserve with a sprained ankle and can not return to game-action until Saturday at the earliest. He is considered to be week-to-week by the club after suffering the injury in last week's home opener against the Thrashers.
