While you enjoy post season baseball (and if you're like me you're enjoying it with just a touch of envy) know that this is a very scary time if you are paying attention to the pending free agency market.  Joe Strauss added to my trepidation of the period with his piece in the Post-Dispatch today.

Joe wrote that the Cardinals were going to give David Freese a crack at thirdbase.  He's a local kid and has earned it.  Feel good story right?  Not for Mister Angst here.  My fear is that it means that the Cardinals will not try to sign Mark DeRosa.  As I have stated presviously, I don't want to see the home team make the same mistake with DeRosa that the Braves, Rangers and Cubs have made.  He is a glue guy that you need on a winning squad.  But with his off-season wrist surgery I can't count on him full time until at least mid-season.  Does that make him a luxury that the Birds can't afford?  I get that position but, I think of him as a necessity.

The Cardinals should give Freese a crack at third and they should sign DeRosa.  Don't think it's going to happen.  They'll wait to see what Matt Holliday does and if he goes elsewhere it might be too late to get Mark.  Hey, we're going in the wrong direction here.  The lineup is getting weaker not stronger.

Right now I have an outfield of Schumaker, Rasmus & Ludwick...an infield of Freese, Ryan, Lugo and Pujols...with Yadi behind the plate.  Compare that with any of the four lineups remaining in post-season.

See what I mean?

We all think we can be a G.M....but for now Mo can have it.
