Yours truly is super excited about being a part of the terrific team that is 101 ESPN! My job is to supply afternoon updates from noon to 7PM and cover the St. Louis Blues (something I've been privileged to do off and on since the 1991-1992 season).

I grew up in the area, hailing from the steeltown of Granite City, Illinois and began covering hockey while earning a degree from SIUE.

Blues' forward Yan Stastny is getting a chance to play at the NHL level again. The veteran was recalled today after clearing re-entry waivers, thus allowing him to leave Peoria and join the Note on a brief road trip. Andy Murray's team faces the Hurricanes in Carolina tomorrow night at 6:00 (CST).

Stastny has totaled nine points in eight games for the Rivermen this season after netting three goals while helping on six others. He played in 34 games for the Blues last season scorng three goals while assisting on four others in addition to collecting 21 minutes in penalties.

The move is in response to winger D-J King's return to injured-reserve. King suffered a broken right hand in a fight on Saturday. King has now hit IR in a season debut two straight years. Last season he suffered a season-ending shoulder ailment in his first and only game.

The opposing Hurricanes have dropped six-straight games and like the Blues, are idle tonight.

Dallas center Steve Ott has been suspended two games, without pay, for his low hit on Blues' defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo Saturday night in a 4-1 loss at home. Ott was penalized on the play but not for the hit only the scirmash that ensued following the play.

No disciplinary action was announced for Ott's knee-to-knee hit, later in the third period, on Note winger B-J Crombeen. Ott was penalized for kneeing. Crombeen received an instigator that did not entail a suspension despite occurring in the last five minutes of the contest and head coach Andy Murray was not fined, according to Jeremy Rutherford of the Post-Dispatch.
