Freddie Riley scored 17 points, Terrell Vinson had 14, and Sean Carter added 13 and eight rebounds for the Minutemen (1-2).
Massachusetts closed the first half with a 13-4 run, sparked by eight points from Gurley, who added five assists and shot 8-for-12 from the field for the game. Harris' back-to-back layups capped the spurt.
Riley's jumper with 11:52 left in the second half increased the margin to 23 points for Massachusetts, which shot 54.5 percent from the floor (36-for-66). The Lions (1-1) shot 43.9 percent (29-for-66).
Aaron McHenry led Arkansas-Fort Smith with 18 points. Jalynn Mitchell had 13 points and Josh Simmons added 12.
