You'll be reading, viewing and hearing many thoughts over the next couple of weeks regarding what the Saints' trip to the Super Bowl means to the community.  So my comments will not break any new ground.

But, having lived in Louisiana for a while I had a chance to view the suffering of their fans up close and rather personal.  In addition, while working in Looziana, I had a couple of instances where I spent some time with team owner Tom Benson.  My impression was just what you would think...a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve...truly loves his community and his team....and just might be crazy...but in a good way.  Like everybody else down there.

Then add into the equation the remarkable story of the building itself.  The focal point of the Katrina aftermath...literally turned into a s%^*hole.  As I watched the game unfold, I wondered if there was anybody in the dome that had been stranded there post Katrina and now was in attendance to witness this Saints' first.  Could that person really enjoy the moment?  Or is that the point?  That sports should be there to help us heal...to help us escape the harsh realities of life.  As our team struggles and fights to achieve they represent us as they are a tangible outlet for our dreams.  Unless of course you're a Cubs fan.  See, you previously could have inserted "Saints" there.

So to my friends and lovers of the swaps, bayous and piney woods of the great state of Louisiana...enjoy the ride.  You deserve to finally get to the promised land of the Super Bowl...who dat?!
