The top-seed Americans will face Switzerland Wednesday afternoon at 2 PM Central in the quarterfinals for men's hockey at the Olympics.
The Swiss won a qualifying match on Tuesday, 3-2, after besting Belarus 2-1 in a shootout that followed three full 20-minute periods and one 10-minute overtime period.
Team USA beat Switzerland on February 16th in the opening game, 3-1, as Blues forward David Backes helped the American's cause with an amazing coast-to-coast goal. He has three points in three games thus far at the Olympics and is a plus-four.
The Swiss are backstopped by netminder Jonas Hiller who has played well enough in the last two years to send fellow-goalie J-S Giguere to Toronto in a trade this season. The U-S is certain to counter with Ryan Miller who turned aside 42-of-45 shots in a 5-3 win over Canada on Sunday night.
Tomorrow's winner will advance to Friday's semifinals to face Finland, Czech Republic or Latvia.
