About The Author:

Yours truly is super excited about being a part of the terrific team that is 101 ESPN! My job is to supply afternoon updates from noon to 7PM and cover the St. Louis Blues (something I've been privileged to do off and on since the 1991-1992 season).

I grew up in the area, hailing from the steeltown of Granite City, Illinois and began covering hockey while earning a degree from SIUE.

Until Thursday the Blues can't win...figuratively and literally. The Note is idle until their test in New York against the Islanders. In the meantime Davis Payne's team is relegated to watching its key competitors in the West add points.

Dallas passed the Blues in the standings, moving from 11th to 10th, with a come from behind win in Washington Monday night.  The unlikely victory snapped a Capitals home winning streak of 13 games. Should Anaheim beat Columbus tonight, the Ducks would push the Note back into 12th. The Blue Jackets have dropped five-straight and host the Blues on Saturday evening.

Detroit hosts Calgary tonight, as well. While the Blues are currently five points behind the Red Wings for the eighth and final playoff spot. That deficit will increase this evening. Should the Flames win in regulation, they would pass the Wings and move into eighth, six points ahead of St. Louis. Should Detroit and Nashville prevail in their respective games, the Blues will be seven points back of eighth, all be it with a game in hand. A Red Wings OT or shootout win would place the Note six points behind Detroit and Calgary for eighth.

Fortunately for the Note, their upcoming three games, this week, all on the road, are very winnable match ups. Following Thursday's meeting with the Isles and Saturday's test in Columbus, Payne's team visits Minnesota on Sunday. The Isles and Wild have dropped two-of-three since the Olympic break. The 'Jackets have lost three-straight and five in a row overall. Though it's worth stating that the Blues have dropped three-of-four to Columbus. The Blues are winless in two trips to Ohio this season.
