A small but hearty crowd at the jewel of mid-town saw SLU dominate the contest defensively from the git-go. The same offensively. However, that dried up. It's 40 minute game and the SLU shot making only went 15 minutes.
Thank God for Kwamain Mitchell and Willie Reed.
Willie controlled the inside, especially in the first half. On the other hand Mitchell took over in the second. The Bills only made nine field goals in the second half and seven of the nine were from the great sophomore guard. Two in particular stand out. First the diabolical triple move (crossover, hesitation, crossover, hesitation, leaning finger roll) that wowed the crowd, dropped some defenders drawers and broke ankles. Then he followed it up with a steal and the first dunk of his career.
But, the Billikens are dreaming if they think Kwamain and Willie's greatness will be enough to pull them through the entire tournament. Rick Majerus' offense works. But, the players must hit the open shots. Not the tough ones...just the easy ones.
We'll see on Monday.
