Burress definately brings a lot to the table. He is a very good receiver who could most certainly help out a young, inexperienced receiving corps, and a struggling quarterback both of which the Rams currently have. There is that upside. However, with Burress' recent issues of missing practice and shooting himself while with the Giants, there is also a tremendous downside. Burress has a less than steller past with regards to character issues. The new coaching staff in St.Louis lead by Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo is taking over a franchise that is in a period of rebuilding and changing their image. Is Plaxico Burress worth the risk? There is little doubt that Burress can help the football team, but he may also hurt it. If his ship isn't righted, it could be a disaster for this franchise. When Spagnuolo first addressed the media after becoming the Rams Head Coach, he preached the four pillars philosophy; faith, character, core values, and team first. These are categories in which I wouldn't give Plaxico Burress a passing grade. Perhaps it is viewed differently by those who are involved in the coaching staff or those who are closer to the team. But from the outside looking in, it does not appear that Plaxico Burress lives his life with this philosophy that the new Rams coach preaches. In my opinion, if the Rams do sign Burress, it would negate the very philosophy and credibility that Coach Spagnuolo is trying to install. Burress is a good player who would help this team on the field, but for a team that is not going to be a Superbowl contender overnight, I don't think signing Burress would be a wise move or worth the risk for the organization going forward.
