*** Wow. Did Joel Pineiro give the Cards exactly what the doctor ordered or what?  He could not have picked a better time for his 4th career complete game shutout.  When a team has lost 10 of its last 14 that just screams for a starting pitcher to become that sort of "stopper" to put an end to it all.  We know what Chris Carpenter is capable of doing Wednesday... but Pineiro?  He was putting his sinker in the exact spot where it needed to be every single time and got ground ball after ground ball.  Brendan Ryan talked afterward about it being "fun" to play behind a guy who does that.  It keeps the defense in the game and makes everything better for the team.  THIS is the Joel Pineiro we saw go 4-0 to start the season, not the guy who had just lost his previous 3.

*** Colby Rasmus continues his streak of home runs.  He hits number 4 (make that 5 including the rain out last Friday) off Ted Lilly in the 5th inning.  Rasmus is a guy who says he has always hit them in bunches.  From the minor leagues until now, when he hits one, he hits a lot of them.  That's why he hit nearly 30 homers in AA and that's part of the reason why he's one of the top prospects (can we still call him a prospect?) in Major League Baseball.
