Daily Bernie: Feb. 22 – Bounce-Back Season for Waino?; Potential Mizzou and Illini Coaches

The old adage “don’t call it a comeback” doesn’t apply to Adam Wainwright in 2017, but it’d be fair to say Uncle Charlie is hoping for some “bounce-back” this season.

Wainwright went 13-9 in 2017 with a 4.62 ERA.

Bernie kicks off Wednesday’s show wondering whether Waino will rebound from his career’s weakest season as he is reportedly entering spring training stronger than he’s been in a while.

And while we likely won’t see any Illini or Tigers dancing in March there still may be intrigue as both schools could be in the market for head coaches in the near future. Yahoo Sports’ Pat Forde throws out names who could land at either school and John Clayton talks NFL quarterback needs in his Wednesday segment.

Also, head coach of the National Champion Clemson Tigers, Dabo Swinney joins to chat about his job during 101ESPN Salute to Coaches Week.

Will 2017 be Waino’s bounce-back year?

Adam Wainwright is reportedly stronger than he’s ever been entering a season just one removed from his career’s weakest. Were 2016’s struggles due to injury or more?

Last season was an uneven one for Wainwright, who stilled managed a 13-9 record despite his 4.62 ERA and 22 homers allowed.

Magic Johnson taking over Lakers operation

The Los Angeles Lakers fired longtime GM Mitch Kupchak and VP Jim Buss and installed Johnson as president of basketball operations. Will this last, or is this a public relations stunt?

Bernie wonders whether this could be another in a long line of ventures Magic has taken on since his playing days. The Hall-of-Famer will have to be all in to resurrect his former team.
