Daily Bernie: Mar 14 – Jake Allen’s Impressive Turnaround; Crean Using Mizzou as Leverage?

It wasn’t terribly long ago Jake Allen seemed on his last leg and fans didn’t know what to think about their team’s number one goaltender. Things have changed.

Allen stopped 38 of 39 LA shots in Monday’s win.

Allen’s defense blocked 23 Kings shots in Monday’s 3-1 win to go with the tender’s 38 saves. Not a bad night defensively. Bernie covers some Bluuuuess hockey Tuesday and notes how impressive Allen’s turnaround truly is.

Your host also welcomes Indianapolis Star columnist Gregg Doyel for some Tom Crean insight. Doyel has extremely interesting theories on the situation, which he shares with your host.

Other Tuesday guests include Sports Illustrated baseball writer Joe Sheehan and Sporting News college hoops columnist Mike DeCourcy.

Gyorko makes sense as a super-utility man

Many Cards fans look at Jedd Gyorko’s 2016 home run total and insist he should start at third base over Jhonny Peralta. The thing is, Gyorko can play other positions and Peralta cannot.

It makes sense to have Gyorko as your go-to plugin guy and Bernie explains why this segment.

Blues best Kings 3-1 in a physical Monday contest

The Kings circled this one on the calendar as almost a must-win while trailing the Blues by three in the Wild Card standings. Alas, it was not to be.

The Note held their own in the road victory against one of the league’s bigger and tougher teams. 23 Blues blocks would look good more often on the stat sheet.
