Daily Bernie: Apr. 26 – Are the Cards Just Not Very Good?; Armstrong Talks Blues-Preds

Is it safe or fair to beg the question: Are these Cardinals just not all that good? Was the roster not planned or put together properly?

Bernie devotes time to the topic Wednesday and welcomes 101ESPN insider Jen Langosch’s input. Your host also talks tonight’s Blues-Predators series opener with Note general manager Doug Armstrong.

Maybe the Cardinals just aren’t that good

The Cards found a way to squander Tuesday’s game with four errors despite another solid Michael Wacha outing. Cardinal batters were 4-for-15 with runners in scoring position in the 6-5 loss.

Was this team just not put together properly? The rotation has been this club’s one saving grace, but bad baserunning, defense and offense have continued as Achilles heels.

Blues’ keys to a second-round triumph

Jake Allen has to continue the brilliance and they’ve got to crack the Predators’ stingy defense. Bernie lists all his keys to a successful Round 2.

Bernie has Mike Matheny’s back

Your host replays and reacts to Matheny’s Tuesday postgame comments, in which the skipper gave a blunt answer when asked if players were feeling outside pressure on their defense.

Is the Blues’ home-ice advantage a good thing?

The Note gaining home-ice was a pleasant surprise, but how much of an advantage is it truly? At 24-12-5, the Blues possess the worst home record of the four remaining Western Conference teams.

A potential silver lining is Nashville’s 17-20-4 road record, but the Preds just take two first-round wins in Chicago. Time will tell.
