Wheeler’s NFL Week Two and NCAA Week Three Picks

I got my butt kicked on my picks last week. Went 6-9 in both the NFL and the NCAA so I’ve got my work cut out for me moving forward! I always finish stronger than I start so don’t make fun…at least not yet.

NFL Week 2

HOU @ CIN (-6)

Another early winner! I wasn’t convinced that Houston would win, which they did, but after watching Cincy’s offense last week I was pretty sure it’d be close either way. 1-0 to start!

CLE @ BAL (-8)

The Ravens defense looks legit and going up against a rookie QB should work in their favor. Browns played with the Steelers last week though so I admit to being a little nervous here, especially with the Ravens shaky looking offense.

BUF @ CAR (-7.5)

I like the Panthers to win this one but I think Shady and Tyrod can keep it close enough to cover the 7.5.

ARZ (-7) @ IND

TEN (-2) @ JAX

I’m not sure what we saw from Jacksonville was repeatable and I’m pretty sure Tennessee is good so I’m picking a nice bounce back.

PHI @ KC (-5.5)

I think the Chiefs win this one but Philly’s defense is solid and the offense is good enough to hang. I’m calling this one 21-17.

NE (-6.5) @ NO

Patriots have problems but after dropping their opener at home I expect them to come out guns blazing in Week 2.

MIN @ PIT (-5.5)

Another one I expect the home team that’s favored to win, just not by as much as the spread. Bell looked rusty last week and the Vikings defense is legit, plus the Minnesota offense might be okay too.

CHI @ TB (-7)

First game of the year for the Bucs and I think they come out ready. Bears put up a good fight against Atlanta but that was at home.

MIA @ LAC (-4)

NYJ @ OAK (-13.5)

DAL (-2.5) @ DEN

The one way to get after the Denver defense is to run at them. Dallas will do that. They did a nice job against a strong Giants defense last year, I think they’ll eek this one out.

WAS @ LAR (-2.5)

McVay against his old team…and I think Gruden has the advantage here, mostly because he has the best QB on the field. Looks like it could be a tight game but I’m not buying the Rams being legit just yet.

SF @ SEA (-14)

GB @ ATL (-3)

Really tough call. Falcons struggled on the road against the Bears and the Packers can really core. Still, I think the Falcons step up in the first game in their new stadium.

DET @ NYG (-3)

This is a gut pick. I’m not sure OBJ is gonna be ready to be an impact player and that Giants offensive line is terrible. Plus Stafford is better than Manning. So I’ll take the road dog.

Last Week: 6-9

Season: 6-9

NCAA Week 3

Illinois @ 22 South Florida (-17)

South Florida is really, really good. Illinois showed me something last week but I think they get a hard lesson on the road this week.

Purdue @ Missouri (-7.5)

Mizzou needs to win this one, badly. I’m not sure they will and even if they do I don’t see them winning by more than a TD.

Air Force @ 7 Michigan (-23.5)

9 Oklahoma State (-12.5) @ Pittsburgh

25 UCLA (-3) @ Memphis

10 Wisconsin (-16) @ BYU

Wisconsin wins this game, maybe even by double digits, but BYU can be tough at home. Really going gut feel here.

16 Virginia Tech (-23) @ East Carolina

SMU @ 20 TCU (-20)

23 Tennessee @ 24 Florida (-4.5)

Until Florida shows me any semblance of an offense I won’t be picking them. At all. Even if they win it’ll probably be by a FG.

Mercer @ 15 Auburn (no line)

Army @ 8 Ohio State (-30.5)

Oregon State @ 21 Washington State (-21)

Tulane @ 2 Oklahoma (-35.5)

Maybe a bit of a come-down game for the Sooners after a big emotional win in Columbus. They win big but maybe not big enough to cover.

Colorado State @ 1 Alabama (-28.5)

12 LSU (-7.5) @ Mississippi State

Upset alert here. I do think LSU wins but I’m on alert. Until they find a legit passing game they’re susceptible to being beaten.

Georgia State @ 5 Penn State (-37)

Samford @ 13 Georgia (no line)

18 Kansas State (-4) @ Vanderbilt

3 Clemson (-3) @ 14 Louisville

I’m going contrarian here. Lotta love for Clemson on the road but I’m going with the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and potential 1st round QB on his home field in a big conference game.

Texas @ 4 USC (-15.5)

Fresno State @ 6 Washington (-33.5)

19 Stanford (-9) @ San Diego State

Last Week: 6-9

Season: 6-9
