Wheeler’s NFL and NCAA Football Picks – Friday Football Frenzy; Still Scuffling

Well, the first month of the football season hasn’t been great for my picks. They stink. They’re so bad they stink out loud. I have a good feeling about this week, so fingers crossed…

NFL Week 5

NE (-3.5) @ TB

I wish all my picks were as good as my Thursday picks. Got another one thanks to Nick Folk kicking scuds Thursday night.

CAR @ DET (-2.5)

This is a coin flip but Stafford is due for a big game so I’ll take the home team here.

BUF @ CIN (-3)

NYJ @ CLE (-1)

Ugh. Look at this one and the next one. Some poor saps are gonna get stuck with these games on their TV screen. Turrible.

SF @ IND (-1.5)

(what I said above)

TEN (-3) @ MIA

SD @ NYG (-3.5)

Someone has to win! Actually, they don’t. They could tie. It would be fitting. Actually think Giants win but I like the extra half point.

ARZ @ PHI (-6.5)

Arizona just isn’t good. Philly is getting better, they have a tough defense and the running game has picked up some steam.

JAX @ PIT (-8)

This should be all Steelers. Jags defense is good and that makes me a little nervous but I think PIT might score on defense.

BAL @ OAK (-2.5)

With Carr out I just can’t pick E.J. Manuel to win a game. Ravens defense makes his life miserable and they win an ugly, low-scoring game.

SEA @ LAR (-1)

I expect a good game with Seattle squeezing out a win in the 4th quarter. If the Rams win here the whole picture in the division changes.

GB @ DAL (-2)

Big game for the Cowboys and I think they grind out a tough win. Rodgers with the ball last scares me though.

KC (-1) @ HOU

I’m not going against the Chiefs just yet. They’ve been the most impressive team in the league but this will be a big challenge.

MIN (-3) @ CHI

Trubisky is starting for Chicago against a really strong Vikings defense. Enough said. Welcome to the league, kid.

Last Week: 5-11

Season Total: 27-36

CFB Week 6

17 Louisville (-3) @ 24 NC State

Well, there’s one Thursday game I missed. That’s a huge win for NC State. Louisville is surprisingly vulnerable.

Illinois @ Iowa (-17.5)

I’ve got a bad feeling about this one for the Illini. Hawkeyes always tough at home.

Missouri @ Kentucky (-9.5)

I just can’t pick Mizzou. At all. After getting trounced at home by Purdue I can’t see them winning on the road in the SEC.

Wake Forest @ 2 Clemson (21.5)

Might look close for a while but Clemson will eventually pull away.

Iowa State @ 3 Oklahoma (-30.5)

4 Penn State (-14) @ Northwestern

5 Georgia (-17.5) @ Vanderbilt

Ole Miss @ 12 Auburn (-22.5)

13 Miami (-3) @ Florida State

This is a game my Canes HAVE to win. Francois is out, FSU offensive line is awful…this is the time to break the losing streak. Canes by 10.

23 West Virginia @ 8 TCU (-13.5)

TCU is going to win this game, IMO, but I like taking the points with WVU here. Should be close enough to cover.

21 Notre Dame (-14.5) @ North Carolina

LSU @ 21 Florida (-2.5)

How can I pick LSU to win on the road a week after losing to Troy at home when the spread is less than a FG? This game might be a 6-3 final.

Maryland @ 10 Ohio State (-31)

OSU will win this game easily but I think the Terps can cover the 31 points.

Oregon State @ 14 USC (-34)

1 Alabama (-26.5) @ Texas A&M

This one could get really, really ugly. I just hope the water is working in College Station after last week’s disaster.

16 Virginia Tech (-16.5) @ Boston College

Michigan State @ 7 Michigan (-10.5)

The Wolverines win this one but it’ll be closer than 10.5 because of rivalry, familiarity and the fact that Michigan’s offense is not exciting.

9 Wisconsin (-10.5) @ Nebraska

11 Washington State (-3) @ Oregon

I almost went with the upset here with Washington State having a letdown after beating USC last week. Almost.

25 UCF @ Cincinnati (no line)

Stanford (-4) @ 20 Utah

California @ 6 Washington (-27.5)

19 San Diego State (-10) @ UNLV

Last week: 8-9

Season total: 38-36
