Wednesday From the Betting Window: Yet another high-scoring game at Coors?

Following a 1-1-1 Monday night and a 1-0 Tuesday night, here is what I like for Wednesday’s MLB slate.

909 Philadelphia Phillies at 910 Colorado Rockies, 7:40 p.m. CT

As Cardinal fans are aware, the Rockies are red-hot. They’ve won five games in a row and are currently benefiting from playing the corpse otherwise known as the Phillies. Colorado scored 20 combined runs in its first two games against Philadelphia pitching and the Rox’ bats should stay scorching hot tonight.

Nick Pivetta will start for Philadelphia. He’s 0-4 with a 4.76 ERA over his last eight starts and is 0-2 with a 16.43 ERA in two career outings against Colorado. His last outing versus the Rockies didn’t go well, as he allowed six runs and eight hits over five innings on June 13. He owns a healthy strikeout rate (27.5%) but has struggled against left-handed hitters (hello Charlie Blackmon and David Dahl). The over is 5-2-1 in Pivetta’s last eight road starts.

On the other side is German Marquez, who has quietly been one of the best pitchers in baseball since the All-Star break. I expect the Rockies to do most of the heavy lifting tonight, but Marquez struggled in his last start versus the Phillies (six runs and seven hits allowed over six innings on June 14), so perhaps Philadelphia will chip in a few runs as well.

Overall, the over is 12-3-1 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams and the right umpire is behind home plate tonight. In Todd Tichenor’s 28 games behind the dish this season, the over is 17-11 and the average ERA for pitchers in those contests is 4.30. No reason to believe the run production will die tonight at Coors.

Prediction: Over 10
