Could Stern try to fine the President?

Last weekend, NBA commissioner David Stern fined Mavericks owner Mark Cuban $100,000 and Suns G.M. Steve Kerr $10,000…each for talking about free-agent-to-be LeBron James joining their team. He considered it tampering with the Cavaliers’ superstar.

Cuban and Kerr have a lot of clout. But as much as Barack Obama? The Chicago Native and Bulls fan told Marv Albert on

TNT’s postgame show last night that James would look good in a Bulls jersey, and that Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah would be a great foundation for James to join.

That doesn’t seem fair. Obama didn’t sing the praises of the Knicks or Nets. He didn’t talk about Miami or Dallas being good destinations for LeBron.

Stern should send a bill to President Obama. This is tampering at the highest level.
