Good to see a St. Louis athlete retire here

I like the Keith Tkachuk retirement press conference that the Blues held on several fronts.

Number one, it’s great to have the public invited to such an event to see what transpires, and to give them a chance to send off one of their favorites.

For me, it was great to see a St. Louis icon get a chance to have a retirement press conference here. Al MacInnis and Ozzie Smith have retired here in the last twenty years, but who else?

Brett Hull, Adam Oates, Curtis Joseph, Brendan Shanahan and soon Chris Pronger all left the Blues after spending their best days here, and will retire elsewhere. Not a single member of the Greatest Show on Turf Rams retired in St. Louis. Kurt Warner, Isaac Bruce, Orlando Pace and Torry Holt all moved on. Marshall Faulk had a retirement ceremony at the owners meetings.

For the Cardinals, guys like Jim Edmonds, Scott Rolen and Jason Isringhausen all moved on. Mark McGwire announced his via a fax to ESPN.

So because of that history…with all the good athletes that have come through St. Louis…it was good to see Tkachuk as one of the guys that got to retire in St. Louis, on his terms.
