How can the Rams catch up to Indy and New Orleans?

So you’ve got the Colts and the Saints in the Super Bowl…two teams that have had major problems winning in the last 15 years.

But here’s how they’ve gotten to this game.

Since 1998, the Colts have had three picks in the top 11 of the draft. In ’98, they took Peyton Manning #1 overall, in ’99 they took Edgerrin James at #4, and in ’02 they took Dwight Freeney at #11. Among the other Colts first rounders yesterday in the AFC Championship were Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark and Joseph Addai…

In that same time frame, the Saints have had five top ten picks. Kyle Turley, Ricky Williams and Jonathon Sullivan weren’t in the game yesterday…but Reggie Bush and Sedrick Ellis were important parts. Robert Meacham and Will Smith also were Saints first rounders.

Do the Rams have a Manning, James, Bush or Ellis among Chris Long or Jason Smith? Doesn’t seem to be.

With the number one pick, the Rams need to hit a roided up McGwire grand slam. You have to work real hard to get top two picks…and the Rams have had three in a row. To get where New Orleans and Indy are…they need Pro Bowl seasons out of their top picks now. Or else, they’ll be picking in the top 10 forever.
