It never was better, and probably never will be

It was ten years ago this weekend that St. Louisans sunk a Viking ship on the Mississippi, packed Laclede’s Landing on Friday and Saturday night, and then went crazy at the then-TWA Dome in a 49-37 rout of Minnesota in the first ever playoff game in St. Louis.

From Kurt Warner hitting Isaac Bruce for a 77 yard touchdown on the Rams first offensive play, to touchdowns by Jeff Robinson and Roland Williams, the Dome was wild for most of the afternoon.

Because that was our first playoff experience, and because the team was soooo good, and so fun, any future playoff experience will pale in comparison.

Not that it won’t be fun…when the Rams get back, it will be. But, the most exhilarating football experience I’ve ever had was in 1999. And it’s hard to imagine that anything could be better than that day at the Dome against Minnesota.
