Oh, what could have been

Curtis Joseph officially retired today, the last of the Hall of Fame quality, mid 90’s Blue to

call it quits.

Think about this. The Blues 1995, strike shortened season squad included Hall of Famers Brett Hull and Al MacInnis, future Hall of Famer Brendan Shanahan and maybe Hall of Famer Joseph.

In addition, Steve Duchesne was a regular 20 goal/60 point defenseman at that time, and the Blues had some other nice players in Guy Carbonneau, Esa Tikkanen and Ian LaPerriere.

The foundation was there for a great run.Three, maybe four, Hall of Famers, and some terrific support players.

After that ’95 season, Mike Keenan tore up the roster, sending Joseph to Edmonton and Shanahan to Hartford.

Keenan ruined what could have been an incredible team for a long time in St. Louis. At least now, with CuJo retiring as the fourth winningest goalie of all time, we don’t have to wistfully read box scores with that group of former Blues superstars any more.
