With Albert Pujols winning his third MVP award, the Cardinals have tied the New York Yankees with each franchise boasting 20 MVPs. The Yanks have an abundance of glamorous names, such as Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig, Joe Dimaggio and Alex Rodriguez. Cardinal history is pretty impressive itself, with Rogers Hornsby, Stan Musial, Bob Gibson and Pujols.
We’re really lucky in St. Louis. The best righthanded hitter of all time, whether it be Hornsby or Pujols, plied his trade in the STL.
Here’s a Cardinal all time MVP team. C-Bob O’Farrell, 3b-Ken Boyer, SS-Marty Marion, 2b-Hornsby, 1B-Pujols, LF-Musial, CF-Willie McGee, RF-Joe Medwick. P’s-Bob Gibson, Dizzy Dean and Mort Cooper. Bench, Jim Bottomley, Joe Torre, Keith Hernandez and Orlando Cepeda.
You’d take that group, wouldn’t you? It’s good to be a Cardinal fan.
