NFL observers are abuzz over the fact that the Rams haven’t been in contact with Sam Bradford about a contract in the days leading up to the draft, speculating that the Rams are going to trade the pick…or are risking a JaMarcus Russell like situation by not signing him ahead of time.
I have some news for those people, and those that are spending time worrying about it…you are being taken in.
Tonight, I’m going to watch 24 on FOX. I always do. I want to know what happens. FOX doesn’t tell me ahead of time what’s going to happen. They do warn me of crazy twists, and reel me in with the mystery of what’s to come.
Thursday night, I’m going to watch the draft on NFL Network. A draft that has been moved to prime-time television. To generate ratings. That’s right, the NFL draft is now a prime time TV show.
If FOX isn’t going to tell me what the results of 24 are before the show, why should the NFL tell me what the results of their show are beforehand? Come on, think about it. Do you think the NFL is going to turn their draft into a prime time show, and then allow their teams to tell people what’s going to happen? No way.
Follow the money. Ratings for the draft equal dollars for the NFL Network. Mystery is a good thing for the league. THAT is why you aren’t hearing about the Rams talking contract with Sam Bradford, and are hearing about the trade possibilities between the Rams and Cleveland or other teams.
This TV show is a mystery. But, at it’s core, it’s still a TV show.
