Growing up in South St. Louis City a couple of blocks from Ted Drewes, Tim McKernan dreamed of playing for the Cardinals. After getting cut from the football, basketball, and baseball teams at St. Louis University High School, it became clear that the only way he was going to be on the field at Busch Stadium was with a press credential.
Realizing a career with the Cardinals was not going to be happening, McKernan attended The University of Missouri Journalism School to focus on broadcasting. His first job in television was at KTHV-TV (CBS) in Little Rock, and after eight months in Central Arkansas, McKernan was hired by KMOV-TV (CBS) in St. Louis as a sports anchor/reporter. While spending five years at KMOV-TV, McKernan began working in radio as well, hosting a show in morning drive beginning in 2004.
Nearly two decades later, that show, now known as The Morning After, is still going strong with a loyal, passionate following of listeners who like the loose, “somewhat” sports talk format of TMA.
McKernan owns and operates insideSTL Enterprises, which created insideSTL.com in 2005 and “The Tim McKernan Show” podcast in 2017. McKernan also owns and operates SoundStory, a company he started in 2019.
Joining Hubbard Radio in January of 2022, McKernan can be heard on TMA Monday through Friday from 7 am to 10 am on 105.7 HD-2 and TMASTL.com, and he can be seen with the cast of TMA on their YouTube channel with the show’s live stream. Following TMA each day, he hosts Balloon Party on 101 ESPN from 10 am to 11 am.
McKernan and his wife, Anna-Marie, have two sons, Jameson and Aidan.
